I was under the impression that they were feeling bad about having her cremated because the state's lab was under fire for no longer being accredited and they were concerned that there wasn't enough DNA left after already being tested? There isn't any evidence presented in the doc one way or another about that being true or not, just that they are worried that maybe the police don't have enough evidence left to test just in case they need to and now they can't get more because she's been cremated. As I said, there is something about him that I find uncomfortable. I noted at the police station he gave just his first name when he arrived and seemed taken aback not to be immediately recognised, slightly narcissistic. I'm no expert, but, I think Madison Hamburg needs to be investigated more, just because he's making this documentary doesn't mean he didn't do it, this could be the ultimate distraction. And yet, his DNA was on a cigarette found at the murder scene, DNA under her fingernails was from the 'male Hamburg' line, so either him or his father. From what I read the documentary, in future episodes, tries to point the finger at other members of the family, except him. I'm actually not comfortable about Madison Hamburg. It sounds like a bit of a hate campaign, he was a deadbeat dad and neglectful husband, but would that make him a murderer? Sometimes being so blinkered could prevent the murderer from being identified. His father had given a DNA sample so clearly his DNA was eliminated. even from under the fingernails in case she had scratched her attacker in self defence. All DNA evidence would have been collected from the crime scene from clothing, etc. When his aunt and grandmother talked about the DNA samples and regretting having his mother cremated no one seemed to understand that was irrelevant is that some form of distraction on their part? It would have only been relevant if she had died unexpectedly with no external injuries. I found it quite amateurish in it's approach. None of the above makes someone a murderer but as far as most likely suspects after episode 1? It’s him by a mile. So it’s a good enough motive for someone else but not him? says money is the motive for her family to kill her. throws shade to the victim’s family as the ones who would have killed her actively discourages his son from looking into his mom’s death, “we’re not investigators”

the whole song and dance of “I don’t want to disparage the dead but.” and proceeds to talk crap about her still very bitter after all these years and can’t scrounge up one ounce of sympathy for his dead ex or kids everything is about him and how this has effected him He doesn’t seem sad about his ex’s horrific murder at all Even then I felt like he dodged the question, did you have anything to do with my mom’s murder? “.I did not kill her.” Ok but did you have anything to do with it? didn’t give their CHILDREN a straight answer for (at best) years to their questions if he killed their mom. was MIA somehow/someway following the murder and the police couldn’t find him was due in court THAT day to pay her a ton of money he was hiding from her still clearly disgruntled about the divorce It’s cliche but after the first episode I don’t know how the ex husband couldn’t have done it?
